The country estate La Sovana is located in Tuscany, in the Province of Siena and close to the charming medieval town of Sarteano.

The surroundings of the resort

Here, Giuseppe Olivi and his wife Giovanella, who have lovingly and carefully managed La Sovana since 1992, welcome you with genuine Tuscan hospitality. This takes place in the beautiful traditional stone houses with exposed wooden beams, terracotta floors and typical Tuscan interiors.

La Sovana extends over 22 hectares of land, where it is a true pleasure simply to be present for those who appreciate peace, tranquillity and beautiful surroundings. The estate is filled with flowering and fragrant lavender, rosemary and many other herbs. Added to this are lemon trees, tall cypress trees and flowers that decorate the entire property.

La Sovana also offers two excellent tennis courts, mountain bike rental, a playground for younger children and a bar open daily. At the bar you can enjoy refreshing drinks and light snacks. Naturally, there is also a large saltwater swimming pool (15 x 8 metres, depth 1.20–2.00 metres) with sun loungers and parasols where you can find shade during the warmer hours. A smaller jacuzzi (not suitable for children) is positioned with beautiful views over the Tuscan countryside.

Wine tasting

In addition to producing their own wine and olive oil (La Sovana is located in the Chianti DOCG region, producing DOCG and IGT wines as well as top-quality extra virgin olive oil, DOP Terre di Siena), there are plenty of open spaces where you can relax with a good book, enjoy lunch or take a walk through the oak forest.

During your stay, a guided tour and wine tasting at their nearby winery (3 km from La Sovana) is included. Here you will taste three different wines. Simply contact the staff to arrange the tasting at a time that suits you.

In front of the main building there is a large notice board displaying the daily activities and the evening menu. Guests can sign up on the board if they wish to participate in the day's activities or dine at the restaurant in the evening. Please also feel free to ask the staff if you would like to be more active during your stay; they will be happy to help with tips and suggestions.

La Sovana's restaurant

The Olivi family has made this beautiful place their home and created a friendly, family atmosphere that is reflected in every aspect of life at La Sovana. Their hospitality is especially evident in the evenings during dinner, where guests can enjoy typical local dishes.

All dishes are carefully prepared by Giovanella using high-quality ingredients, with great attention to organic and zero-kilometre products, including vegetables grown in the lush kitchen garden.

Dinner is almost an event in itself and one of the reasons why guests return year after year. Here they can enjoy Giovanella's personal interpretation of traditional Tuscan cuisine, all prepared with fresh local ingredients grown on the estate and in the surrounding area.

Specialities include Tuscan soups, Florentine steaks grilled over an open fire, and homemade pasta and pizza. During the summer months, you can dine on the covered terrace by the pool, overlooking the fields and green hills. When the weather becomes cooler, you can enjoy your meal indoors in the elegant dining room.

At the restaurant it is also possible to purchase breakfast (at an additional cost), which is also prepared by Giovanella for the guests.

Normally, the dinner schedule is as follows:

Saturday:
Complimentary aperitivo for all guests, followed by a barbecue evening (additional cost) featuring grilled bistecca fiorentina (Florentine steak) with truffles.

Sunday:
Pizza evening (additional cost).

Monday:
Usually the day when the wine tasting takes place (included in the price).

Wednesday:
Barbecue evening (additional cost) featuring grilled bistecca fiorentina (Florentine steak) with truffles.

The restaurant is open every evening, and there is always a set menu shared by all guests. During the summer months, dinner is served outdoors with views of the pool and the surrounding landscape.

There is a good chance that there will be live music one evening per week. A local musician performs, with a broad repertoire, although mainly focused on Italian music.

Holiday apartments and rooms

In addition to 14 B&B rooms, La Sovana has six apartments. There are three different sizes, with two of each type: Granaio, Granaio Superior and Studio. These apartments are located slightly away from the main buildings (approximately 120 metres), where the restaurant and bar are situated, and are grouped together in the Granaio building (the old granary).

All apartments are well equipped and have kitchens with large refrigerators, hobs, dishwashers and coffee machines. They also have private terraces and outdoor dining areas.You should choose to stay here if you would like the possibility of preparing your own meals during your stay.

The surrounding area

The medieval town of Sarteano is approximately 4 km away, where you will find a supermarket, pharmacy, post office, restaurants, bars, a weekly market, a Renaissance palace, picturesque streets and squares, and not least the refreshing lack of mass tourism.

La Sovana is ideally located; only 2 km from the Chiusi-Chianciano Terme motorway exit, while the wine towns of Montalcino and Montepulciano are just a short drive away. Siena, Arezzo, Perugia, Orvieto and Todi are also within easy reach, while Florence and Rome can be reached in just one hour by train from the nearby town of Chiusi.

However, do not be surprised if you find that you simply want to spend your entire holiday at La Sovana. Here you can enjoy beautiful apartments, relax on your private terrace, swim in the pool and savour the delicious food from Giovanella's kitchen. Added to this are all the activities available in the surrounding area.
