Beautiful apartments of high quality - and unparalleled views from the pool area.

Il Castagno is ideally located near Gambassi Terme and close to San Gimignano (12 km). The country estate dates back to the year 970 and today consists of a villa and 14 independent apartments.

The property is situated at the end of a cypress avenue on a hilltop, with views over the surrounding landscape. The area is characterised by hills, oak trees, cypresses, fields, vineyards and olive groves.

Il Castagno is a good choice for those who would like to stay in peaceful surroundings with a pool, space around them and good opportunities for excursions in central Tuscany. You are also well placed for visiting Volterra, Certaldo, Siena, Florence and Pisa.

The surroundings

Il Castagno offers a pleasant pool area with a large pool measuring 20 x 10 metres and with a depth of 1.40 metres. Next to the pool, there is a children’s pool of approx. 60 cm in depth and a playground.

Around the pool, there are sun loungers and views over the landscape. It is an attractive area for both children and adults, especially if the holiday is to include many hours by the pool.

Behind the holiday apartments, there is a small fenced garden with animals. Further behind this, there is a small woodland area with marked running routes and a lake with benches and a barbecue. Here you can go for a walk or enjoy a simple dinner outdoors.

There are opportunities for walking in the area. Tennis and horseback riding are available approx. 10 km from Il Castagno, and bicycles can be rented in San Gimignano.

The apartments at Il Castagno

The apartments are furnished in a classic Tuscan style with rustic furniture and a rural atmosphere. All apartments are independent and have a kitchen, living area, bedrooms, bathroom, satellite TV and Wi-Fi.

The apartments come in different sizes and can accommodate from 2 to 8 people. This makes Il Castagno suitable for couples, families and several generations who would like to travel together, but stay in separate apartments.

All apartments have an outdoor area with garden furniture. Some outdoor areas are private and have a view, while others are located in the shared areas around the country estate.

Experiences in the area

The nearest shops are in Gambassi Terme, approx. 7.5 km away, and in Montaione, approx. 8.6 km from Il Castagno.

San Gimignano is within easy driving distance and is ideal for an excursion, a dinner or a walk through the town. From Il Castagno, you can also take trips to Volterra, Certaldo, Siena, Florence and Pisa.

The nearest restaurant is located opposite Il Castagno, where there is also a café. This is convenient if you would like to eat out without having to drive far. In addition, the restaurant Casalchino is located in the direction of San Gimignano, approx. 6 minutes by car from the country estate.

Il Castagno is well suited for those who want a simple and classic holiday apartment in Tuscany with a pool, views and the possibility of excursions. It is not a modern resort, but a traditional country estate with apartments, shared facilities and a good location in relation to several of Tuscany’s well-known towns.

    The prices include:

    Water, gas, electricity, wifi, linen changed weekly and final cleaning.

     

    Pool season:

    The swimming pool is open between 01/05 - 30/09 - only during the day.

     

    To be paid locally and directly to the owners:

    Inventory deposit: 200 euro (credit card).

    Central heating: after consumption (is only used in the cold months).

    Extra bed: 15 euros per day, which is noted next to each apartment, where it is possible to choose an extra bed as an additional purchase.

    Maid service: 22 euro per hour.

    Babycot and high chair: free, must be booked in advance. 

    Use of common washing machine 5 euro each wash. 

    Pets are allowed upon request.

     

    NB - Tourist tax:

    A tourist taxation, which is a small amount, has to be paid locally at arrival. The tourist taxation is expected to be approximately 1,5 euro per person per night (kids not included) and a maximum of 10 days.
