Unique holiday apartments in a small village

Nestled among rolling hills and mountains in the heart of Italy, Fattoria Aquilone offers five charming holiday apartments for 2–7 guests in the beautiful region of Umbria.

A medieval hamlet brought back to life

Fattoria Aquilone is part of a small medieval hamlet where the owners have carefully restored a selection of historic houses and apartments located throughout the village. Today, they offer authentic holiday accommodation that blends seamlessly into the character and history of the hamlet.

This is a place to slow down, leave everyday life behind and embrace the art of daydreaming – a philosophy that lies at the heart of Fattoria Aquilone.

The focal point of the property is the shared panoramic garden and swimming pool (16.5 x 5.5 metres), beautifully positioned above the village and surrounded by flowers, shrubs and centuries-old trees. Relax on a sun lounger, enjoy the views across the Umbrian countryside and soak up the peaceful atmosphere that makes this place so special.

Throughout the garden, the owners have created shaded corners where guests can read a book, enjoy an aperitivo or simply take in the scenery. It is a place where time slows down and where the landscape invites quiet reflection.

A family story

In 1998, Benedetta's parents purchased a number of abandoned houses throughout the medieval hamlet of Poggio Aquilone and began restoring them with great respect for their history and rural heritage. Their vision was to preserve the soul of the village while creating a welcoming place for travellers seeking an authentic Italian experience.

Today, Benedetta continues the family project, combining her parents’ passion for restoration with a strong focus on sustainability, nature and meaningful local experiences.

Fattoria Aquilone is not a traditional holiday resort. Instead, guests stay in carefully restored apartments spread throughout the village, experiencing daily life much like the locals do. The shared garden and swimming pool serve as a natural meeting point where guests can relax, unwind and occasionally get to know one another.

The apartments

The apartments are furnished in a simple and welcoming style that reflects the character of the village. Traditional stone floors, exposed wooden beams and carefully preserved architectural details create a warm and authentic atmosphere.

Each apartment features a fully equipped kitchen with oven, stove, dishwasher and fridge-freezer, making it easy to prepare meals using ingredients from local markets and shops.

All apartments also have access to a private outdoor area, either directly outside the apartment or nearby, where guests can enjoy meals and quiet moments outdoors.

Organic living and the synergistic garden

Respect for nature is an important part of life at Fattoria Aquilone. In 2021, the owners created a unique "synergistic" vegetable garden based on natural growing principles, where different plants support one another and help maintain the health of the soil.

The garden is nourished using natural compost made from leaves, straw and other organic materials produced on the estate. The result is a small ecosystem designed to work in harmony with nature.

Guests are welcome to visit the garden, learn about its philosophy and even pick herbs and seasonal produce to use in their own cooking.

Authentic experiences

Those looking for a deeper connection with Umbrian culture can join one of the experiences organised by the owners.

Cooking classes introduce guests to the traditions of Umbrian cuisine, a culinary heritage influenced by both the Etruscans and the Romans and known for its simplicity and excellent local ingredients.

The owners also organise tastings featuring their own extra virgin olive oil, grains, legumes and carefully selected local wines. These experiences offer a genuine insight into the flavours and traditions of the region.

For something a little different, guests can order a picnic basket inspired by Umbrian cuisine and enjoy lunch surrounded by nature and beautiful views.

Exploring Umbria

The surrounding countryside offers excellent opportunities for walking, cycling and discovering the natural beauty of Umbria.

Nearby nature areas are home to a rich variety of wildlife, native plants and scenic landscapes. Guests can explore marked trails on foot or by mountain bike, and the owners are happy to provide maps and recommendations. Mountain bikes can also be rented on request.

One of Umbria's greatest strengths is that it remains less crowded than many of Italy's more famous destinations. Charming hilltop towns, traditional restaurants and authentic local life can still be found throughout the region.

The regional capital, Perugia, is well worth a visit, offering beautiful architecture, lively squares and a vibrant local atmosphere. Lake Trasimeno is another highlight, with its lakeside villages, walking routes, beaches, cycling paths and excellent restaurants overlooking the water.

Whether you spend your days exploring the region or simply relaxing by the pool, Fattoria Aquilone offers a unique opportunity to experience the authentic charm of Umbria, surrounded by nature, history and genuine Italian hospitality.
