Feel the presence of history in beautiful green surroundings
Castello Monticelli is steeped in history, offering guests an extraordinary vacation experience.
View towards Perugia
Perched atop a hill in a vast valley, Castello Monticelli boasts stunning panoramic views stretching for miles in every direction. The medieval town of Perugia is visible from many of the accommodations and surrounding gardens.
Originally a small medieval village dating back to the early 12th century, Monticelli features a chapel with valuable frescoes from 1315-1319, depicting the Apostles John and John the Baptist.
The owners live on the property, and Ellen, in particular, plays an active role in daily operations. She ensures every detail is perfect and is always available with recommendations for excursions and restaurants.
Dining at Castello Monticelli
The property includes a restaurant where meals are served outdoors on one of the many lovely terraces when the weather permits. The restaurant, housed in one of the estate's most prominent parts, is an experience in itself, with vaulted ceilings and a small wine cellar full of history. It serves typical Umbrian dishes and is open on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, or by arrangement.
Behind the restaurant, on a plateau, guests can enjoy views toward Perugia from a large pavilion equipped with a small kitchen, bar, and comfortable furniture. This is the perfect spot for an aperitivo, sometimes accompanied by live music.
Pools and outdoor areas
The estate has two pools: one (4 x 8 m, depth 1.40 m) designed for relaxation and another (14 x 6.5 m, depth 1.10-1.90 m) for families with children. Sun loungers are available for all guests.
The oldest parts of the estate are four military towers, built between 595 and 1380 to oversee the valley southwest of Perugia, Umbria's capital. The tower walls are over a meter thick.
Apartment interiors with a personal touch
With immense passion and patience, the owners have transformed the various buildings on the estate into apartments. While the apartments vary in size, they all offer a charming blend of rustic furniture, exposed brick walls, and original features that exude Italian character. Modern amenities ensure a comfortable stay.
Some of the apartments have aircondition. Each apartment has access to a garden area with outdoor furniture, some of which are private. Additionally, there is a shared terrace with breathtaking views of Perugia. A communal laundry room is also available.
Local experiences
The nearest village, San Biagio della Valle (about 2 km), has a small CONAD supermarket. For more shopping options, Tavernella is just 10 km away. Located in the heart of Italy, Umbria’s green landscapes are best enjoyed from Castello Monticelli’s terraces, but there’s much to explore beyond the estate. Visit historic towns like Perugia, Assisi, Todi, and Orvieto, or venture into Tuscany to explore the medieval town of Cortona.
Only 12 km away lies Lake Trasimeno, perfect for swimming, dining in quaint lakeside villages, boating, or hiking and biking around its perimeter. The possibilities seem endless in Umbria.
A mere 2 km from the property, you'll find a national park, Sereni-Torricella, an untouched forest protected by the EU. Ellen is happy to provide directions. If you’re seeking authentic Italian charm with fewer tourists, nearby villages like Spina, Mercatello, Morcella, and Migliano offer quiet spots to enjoy gelato and observe local life. Ellen can assist with tailored suggestions based on your preferences.
