Relaxed holidays for the whole family

Casa Carbonaia is beautifully situated among the green hills near Vinci, the birthplace of Leonardo da Vinci. This historic Tuscan country house offers lovely views, plenty of character and a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere.

This is not a place with a reception, permanent staff or an organised holiday programme. Quite the opposite. Life here is informal and moves at an easy pace. You are free to spend your days exactly as you wish, enjoying the beautiful surroundings and making the most of your holiday at your own rhythm.

A historic country house with seven apartments

Dating back to the late 14th century, Casa Carbonaia has been carefully restored and converted into seven rustic holiday apartments.

The apartments vary in size and layout, but all have their own kitchen and bathroom. The traditional Tuscan style has been preserved, creating a cosy and practical setting rather than a modern, luxurious one.

It is an ideal holiday destination for families with children, couples and groups of friends who enjoy spending time together while still having the privacy of their own apartment.

Outdoor areas and pool

The large swimming pool (7 x 14 metres, with a depth of 1.10–2.50 metres) is surrounded by a lovely garden and offers wonderful views across the rolling Tuscan hills, dotted with churches and traditional villas.

There is plenty of space to relax with a book, enjoy a refreshing swim or simply take in the beautiful countryside.

In the garden, guests can make use of a shared barbecue and pizza oven, perfect for relaxed evenings outdoors. It is also a nice opportunity to get to know some of the other guests, if you feel like it.

During the high season, a communal dinner is usually arranged once a week. It is a lovely, informal occasion where guests can gather around the table, enjoy a meal together and meet the other families staying at Casa Carbonaia. Participation is, of course, entirely optional.

Simone – a passion for outdoor adventure

Casa Carbonaia is run by Simone and his family. Simone has a great passion for nature and the many outdoor activities that Tuscany has to offer. In fact, organising outdoor experiences is his main occupation, which means he spends much of his time away from the property.

For this reason, you should not expect to see Simone or other family members at Casa Carbonaia every day. Staffing is limited during the week, and communication mainly takes place via WhatsApp, where you can ask questions or arrange a time to meet if you need assistance.

Rather than traditional hotel-style service, Casa Carbonaia offers a more independent and relaxed holiday experience, where you can enjoy your surroundings and spend your time as you please.

Simone knows the local forests, hills, rivers and trails extremely well and works professionally with outdoor activities. Guests have the opportunity to join guided mountain biking tours, canyoning, rafting, hiking and other nature-based adventures.

Activities can be arranged individually with Simone and are charged separately.

Close to Vinci, Florence and Lucca

Casa Carbonaia is located just 4 km from Vinci, where you will find shops, restaurants and the fascinating history of Leonardo da Vinci.

The location is also ideal for exploring some of Tuscany's most interesting towns and cities. Florence, Lucca, Pisa and Pistoia are all within easy reach, while the surrounding countryside offers excellent opportunities for walking, cycling and discovering charming local villages.

Practical information

Fans can be provided in the apartments, as air conditioning is only available in the Garzetta apartment.

All apartments have mosquito screens on the windows, allowing you to keep the windows open at night if you wish.

A shared washing machine is available free of charge.
