Plenty of space to frolic and play for everyone.
The history of Borgo Colognola dates back to the 14th century, when the first records documented the fertile land being cultivated, laying the foundations for a small rural community. Over time, the settlement grew to include farmhouses, a church, and thriving agricultural activity—many of which continue to define the estate today.
The Atmosphere
Although centuries have passed since Borgo Colognola was first established, the buildings have retained much of their original character. As a guest, you'll experience authentic Italian charm, history, and atmosphere at every turn.
In 2007, the current owners began an extensive restoration project, transforming Borgo Colognola into the beautiful holiday retreat it is today. Nestled in the heart of Umbria, it provides a spectacular setting not only for relaxing holidays but also for weddings, celebrations, and unforgettable family gatherings.
The restoration has been carried out with exceptional attention to detail, both inside and out. Throughout the villas and apartments you'll find exposed wooden beams, traditional terracotta floors, elegant timber flooring, beautifully restored doors, gates, and original architectural features that preserve the estate's authentic character while offering modern comfort.
The Villas
Borgo Colognola offers a selection of apartments and villas. At Local Living, we have chosen to offer the three villas Macine, Pavone, and Villa Colognola, while the estate also includes eight additional holiday apartments.
Each villa has its own private terrace where you can relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. Guests share the beautiful swimming pool (15 x 5 metres, depth 1.5 metres), which overlooks the rolling Umbrian landscape.
From the pool area, it's easy to understand why Umbria is known as Italy's Green Heart. Surrounded by endless shades of green, whether you're relaxing on a sun lounger or enjoying a swim, the scenery is simply breathtaking.
Discover the Estate
The owners certainly keep busy. The estate covers an impressive 270 hectares at the foot of Mount Tezio and is home to olive groves, vineyards, and extensive woodland.
Borgo Colognola produces its own wine and extra virgin olive oil and also raises traditional black pigs—a long-standing family tradition. These slow-growing Italian heritage pigs roam freely across the estate, and you'll often spot them during your walks.
The wine and olive oil are still produced using traditional methods with great respect for nature and the surrounding landscape.
Guests are welcome to explore the estate independently, gaining an insight into how everything is connected. The owners also organise guided tours, where you'll have the opportunity to learn more about the production process and enjoy tastings of the estate's own products. Simply ask during your stay if you would like to join.
There is no shortage of experiences to enjoy here. The owners are happy to help arrange everything from relaxing massages and mountain biking through the Umbrian countryside to guided tours of nearby Perugia.
You can also browse the estate's small farm shop for seasonal local produce to use in your own cooking. If you'd rather leave the cooking to someone else, why not join a cooking class or invite a private chef to prepare a memorable dinner at your villa?
The Local Area
The nearest village is San Marco, approximately an eight-minute drive away, where you'll find a supermarket, pharmacy, bank, petrol station, and other everyday amenities.
For a larger selection of shops, restaurants, and cultural attractions, the historic city of Perugia is just a 15-minute drive from the estate.
If you're looking to dine out nearby, several restaurants are located just a couple of minutes away by car, serving everything from traditional pizza and fresh seafood to excellent local meat dishes.
Borgo Colognola is a destination created with genuine passion and dedication, offering countless opportunities to experience the very best of Umbria while creating memories that will last a lifetime.
