Rises above the forest lies this little paradise

Forte Sorgnano is a high-altitude (450 metres above sea level) and atmospheric, family-run country estate in the heart of the green and lush Umbria region, between Perugia and Assisi. The estate dates back to the end of the last century and has been lovingly and completely restored, with the buildings now divided into hotel rooms and 11 apartments.

The holiday resort’s surroundings

This is the place to stay if you are looking for a peaceful holiday in authentic Umbria, where you can leave all obligations behind and enjoy local Umbrian cuisine and local wine, served at the estate’s excellent restaurant. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, so you can quickly become regular guests in the main building, or perhaps stop by for a coffee or a beer in the late afternoon.

At least once a week, there is a dinner with live music from June to September. There is only internet access in the area around the restaurant and on the large shared terrace.

In the garden, there is a large swimming pool (7 x 14 metres) with sun loungers and parasols. From here, you can also enjoy views over the surrounding landscape. You can also spend your time actively with a game of table tennis or cycling.

At Forte Sorgnano, some lucky farm animals live on the estate: 2 goats (Miele and Bebe), 2 pigs (Ciro and Concietta), rabbits, geese, chickens, and ducks. Children are very welcome to help feed the animals together with the farmer (at 7 in the morning) and to help collect fresh eggs for your breakfast.

In the same area as the animals (approximately 150 metres from the main building), there is a small football field with benches for the loyal parents ;-)

All apartments are spacious and nicely furnished. They have kitchens with dishwashers, and each apartment has its own private terrace – most of them are covered.

Experiences in the area

The area around the country estate is covered with forests and olive groves, where the owners of Forte Sorgnano produce high-quality organic olive oil in large quantities. If you become addicted to it during your holiday, you can have it sent home to Denmark after your stay.

It is also possible to buy other local products such as wine, grappa, vin santo, pasta, and truffles. If you do not feel like going into town to shop, you can leave your shopping list at the reception, and they will take care of the rest.

There are approximately 3.5 km of gravel road to reach the country estate.

Approximately 700 metres from Forte Sorgnano, there is a castle that has played an important historical role as a fortress in the Byzantine Corridor. Today, the beautiful surroundings are used for events and weddings, with space for 200 guests.

As a guest at Forte Sorgnano, you will be invited to the castle for music events, cocktails, cooking classes, and dinners.

We highly recommend taking a hike or exploring the beautiful and untouched nature around Forte Sorgnano by mountain bike or on horseback.

The owners arrange cooking classes, where you can learn the secrets behind the local cuisine.

When staying here, you can benefit from discount agreements on Deruta ceramics (9 km), entrance to amusement parks, wineries, and restaurants.

The nearest important towns are Assisi (27 km) and Perugia (25 km). Both towns are well worth a visit.

This place is ideal for weddings, and Forte Sorgnano can accommodate a total of 80 guests for dining – otherwise, as mentioned, there is the castle with room for 200 people.

A great tip for both children and adults is to visit the nature park “Activo Park”, where you can try various outdoor activities such as tree-top courses, kayaking, and rafting.
